அதிக சம்பளம் பெறுவது எப்படி

#Just_My_Thoughts

Long post but I'll try to keep it crisp and fast.
Non IT ppl. Sorry, you can skip the post.
Lots of posts and comments about CTC these days.

Some jealous, some surprised.

Are they real? Yes definitely. But depends on so many things.

1. MNC/Product based - excellent pkg, but unless you have proper skill, you can't cross 45 yrs of age here.

Services /Other indian IT has comparatively better job security but even there, max 45-50 yrs. Adhukku mela la its going to cost blood and soul.

2. Technology/Skill. Big deal seriously. 100% hike possible. Yes, I was jealous too. It happened. Happens. Someone I knew, SAP specialist, 10 yr exp, from Chennai. Got 44 from 20. No point in getting jealous. If you're in everybody-knows-technology (DB/Java/Testing etc), standard 30% hike thaan max. Specialize in new technologies, niche products, and sell your skill at the right place.

3. Domain/Industry knowledge. This is more important than technical knowledge. You'll realise it after 10+ years where writing code won't help. A fresher will do that for quarter of the cost.

4. IIT/IIM/Google/Microsoft. Etc. Enough said. Last day fresher package will be 15+. 50 CTC in 5 years.

5. First 8 years. You need to jump every two years. Next 6 years, jump once every 3 years. If you didn't do that, you've lost your golden time in IT. Sentiment, team, location, project, mannangatti... If you were waiting for these, your loss. Do some company jumps now, make use of whatever comes.

6. Very important. Don't reveal your current pkg. Don't accept for current + 30%. Dont mention expected CTC before the final round to anybody, HR or consultancy. Ask for interview shot, finish all of the 2/3/4+ rounds. And then drop your bomb. Ask 100% hike. You'll at least get 50%. If they don't accept, don't kneel down and beg for 40%. Simply reject and come out. If you're really good and did your interview well, they will come back for sure.

7. Certifications are only fancy cards. Helps in showing off. Especially after 8-10 years. Knowledge matters.

8. Dont expect much hike if you're attending mass recruits on a saturday. Fish for interviews separately on your own / consultancies. Mass recruitments will 99% give you standard 30% hike only. Simply because, according to company, trisha illana divya.

Now, if you've missed all these, what to do? Depends on your experience.

College students, freshers. Don't go into java, db, testing, etc. Wait for the right project. Don't let HR push you into dump. Argue, fight and get new tech projects only. Do RPA, AI, Machine learning, big data, data analysis, Cloud, SAP etc.

10± exp: concentrate on gaining domain knowledge. And the next time, go for MNC/Product based companies only.

Experienced Below 8: Simply jump 1/2 times. Preferably to MNC/Product companies.

Sit and prepare like an exam a day before interview. If there were marks, it's like trying to score 100 instead of 70. The difference is not during the interview. When you do exceptionally good, at last round ask 100% hike, HR offers only 35%, you reject and come out, panel asks HR why they let you go, HR comes back to you, appo theriyum.

Take leave from current work for both prev day and interview day. Or at least two half days - prev day second half and interview day whichever half you need. Don't do interview from middle of office day.

Make sure you bargain at the last round.
Always ask for 100% hike. With a serious face. Justify yourself reasonably. Argue for it, ask for it. Nobody will behead you. Take whatever comes at the end.

Good luck.
